Tour Overview

Drive

Bathway Beach Visitor Center

The tour starts between 5 and 6 PM. Our fabulous turtle guide Mandoo will take you on a 90 mins drive to Bathway Beach Visitor Centre in the north of the island. At the centre you will be welcomed by the local community conservation group SPECTO, which provides an induction to all guests.
Levera Beach

Levera Beach

After the induction at the visitor centre you are taken to Levera Beach, one of the most beautiful locations in Grenada even at night. Now the wait begins... for this part of the trip bring along warm clothes, drinks, snacks and good stories to share. The local researchers and volunteers from Ocean Spirits will patrol the beach and inform guests when a turtle is spotted.
Night Walk

Observing the Leatherbacks

As soon as the researchers find a turtle, you'll be allowed to walk along the beach to observe the turtle as it it digs a nest and lays its eggs. A maximum of twelve people are allowed in a group so as not to disturb the turtles unduly. White or bright clothing, flashlights and cameras with flash are not allowed as they can distract the turtles. It is recommended that you bring red lights and to keep a respectful distance from the animals. You should be home again around midnight.

Consider before the tour…

  • Bring cameras
  • Bring insect repellent. You never know when they will strike!
  • Casual clothing is the rule
  • It may be windy so bring appropriate clothing
  • Drinks, snacks and picnic blankets are a good idea too
Please note that as with all wildlife not in captivity their behaviour is unpredictable and their presence cannot be guaranteed. A minimum of four is needed for a viable group so it will be helpful if you are flexible on date. We will try our best to fit you into a group.
